Seeing something, or having a sudden thought. I like taking whatever strikes me as interesting as a starting point and letting the idea spread out from there.

One interest leads, by association, to another idea, and I combine them and give them shape little by little. I work out the details and think about whether the whole fits together and feels natural, and sometimes what I end up with is far from the idea I started with.

For a long time I have wanted to play a small prank on the world.

That doesn’t necessarily mean anything flashy. I mean something that moves the people who see it, through an unexpected surprise or discovery, curiosity, a slight sense that something is off, or a bit of playfulness.

While holding on to what I myself find interesting, I want to make things that other people can enjoy too.

I have worked at several web production companies, worked freelance, and founded and later dissolved a company of my own. Now I am employed at a company, working as a front-end engineer.

I find joy in taking on big projects as a team and carrying part of the work. At the same time, I also really love thinking up ideas on my own and making something through trial and error.

Lately, with changes in technology and in the tools for making things, I can turn all sorts of ideas into something real in less time than before.

Beyond websites and small services, my interest has recently spread to game development too. Sometimes I share web applications I made for myself with just a few friends, and we play with them together.

There are still many things I want to make.

Since I came to Tokyo, I often see jumping spiders in my home.

With their small bodies they look busily around, rub their front legs together, or suddenly hop. I can watch them for a long time without getting bored.

It somehow feels as if we live together, and at some point I began to want to make a website with jumping spiders in it.

At first that was the whole idea, but my interest slowly widened from there, and other creatures, the food chain, the weather, changes in the environment and many other things were added until it reached its current form.

Sometimes, while I’m working on something else during production, a jumping spider stirs at the back of the screen.

Even though I’m the one making it, I can’t help flinching at the movement.

I love listening to music.

Once every two months, I hold an event where people bring music from niche genres and we listen to it together.

This year is our third.

In the beginning it was just a small gathering to listen to music we liked, but as we kept it going, I feel it has gradually become something like a community.

When you keep doing the same thing for a long time, connections between people form, and the shape of the gathering changes little by little.

This is the first time I’ve experienced that kind of change, and I find it both strange and interesting.

I’m grateful to the people who offer the space and to everyone who comes, and I hope to keep it going.
